In a poignant ceremony held at the State House on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu officially launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund, underscoring the vital role of Nigeria’s military in safeguarding national peace and security. Emphasizing the theme of unity and progress, Tinubu expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes, highlighting that true development can only flourish in a secure environment.
During the event in the Council Chambers, the President recognized the Armed Forces’ significant contributions amidst growing threats to Nigeria’s stability. “Without security, there can be no peace, and without peace, there can be no development,” he affirmed, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring a robust defense against any adversities the country may face.
The event saw key figures from the government pledge significant contributions to support the fund, a move aimed at honoring the military and bolstering its efforts. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced a government official donation of N500 million, signifying a strong commitment from the administration towards reinforcing national defense.
In a show of unity from the legislative arm, Senate President Godswill Akpabio proudly declared a donation of N200 million on behalf of the National Assembly. “As we honor our fallen heroes, we must ensure that those still in service know they are valued and supported,” Akpabio stated, reaffirming the nation’s resolve to stand by its defenders.
Moreover, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, declared a contribution of N50 million from the service chiefs. Adding to the collective effort, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun also pledged support, showcasing a united front among security agencies in Nigeria.
The launch of the appeal fund marks a significant initiative in fostering financial support for the Armed Forces, a move that not only pays tribute to past sacrifices but also highlights the importance of continuous investment in national security.
