Rukuba, Plateau State— In a significant move to honor and support the Nigerian Army, President Bola Tinubu announced the approval of Group Life Assurance for all military personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
This declaration was made at the grand finale of the Nigerian Army Celebration held at the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, in Bassa LGA of Plateau State, on Saturday.
President Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, emphasized the government’s commitment to fortifying the Nigerian Army, ensuring they are well-equipped to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities.
He emphasized the administration’s dedication to building a professional and well-equipped army that remains the pride of the nation.
“The Nigerian Army remains one of the most patriotic and selfless elements of our nation,” Tinubu stated.
“It embodies people who have volunteered, sacrificed, fought, and died so that the nation would live in peace. What can be more patriotic than to lay down one’s life for the sake of the nation?”
Acknowledging the increased security challenges over the past decade, President Tinubu praised the Army’s resilience and sacrifices. “I am aware that you are now deployed in all states of the Federation, making sacrifices daily in a bid to secure Nigeria,” he noted, drawing a parallel to Winston Churchill’s famous words by saying, “never in the history of Nigeria, have so many owed so much to so few.”
In addition to the Group Life Assurance, Tinubu announced the approval for the purchase of attack helicopters and other combat equipment to enhance the Army’s operational efficiency.
He stressed the need for the military to adapt to evolving security threats, ensuring the safety of Nigerians in all spheres of life.
“As the world changes, our security architecture must also change to meet up with the new threats,” he asserted. “Nigerians must be safe in their fields, on our highways, in our markets, and in their homes.”
The President called on the Army to maintain their professionalism while taking direct action against violent groups, highlighting their crucial role in the nation’s security.
“There is no doubt, you represent the pride of the nation; an institution with history; an institution that has never failed Nigeria.”
Tinubu charged the soldiers to uphold justice and righteousness in their duties. “Your charge now is not only to protect your country but to do what is right and just at all times. As your Commander-In-Chief, I know you will.”
The event in Rukuba was the reaffirmation of the government’s support for the Nigerian Army, aiming to ensure that the sacrifices of fallen soldiers are honored and that the living have the resources they need to protect the nation.
