Ibadan, Nigeria— Governor Ademola Adeleke called on entrepreneurs to embrace innovation and resilience amidst Nigeria’s challenging economic climate during the commissioning of a major gas plant and the Dangote Refinery Booking Office in Ibadan.
Addressing a gathering of business leaders and dignitaries, Governor Adeleke underscored the importance of persistence and adaptability for business success. “Opportunities exist during economic turbulence for business people who can innovate and adjust their operational models,” he said.
“We are commissioning a business today that is innovating in tune with the current economic climate. I use this event as a point of contact to all business operators. We know the environment is harsh but we must adapt.”
The Governor urged entrepreneurs not to give up despite the economic difficulties. He advised them to refocus their efforts, review their business strategies, cut costs, and maintain a strong faith.
“You have invested so much. Let’s refocus the business by reviewing the line of business. Let’s study what new lines the current situation is throwing up. Let’s cut costs and put God at the center of our operations,” he advised.
Governor Adeleke also celebrated the resilience of Mrs. Motunrayo Ajeigbe Akinlosotu, the CEO of the newly commissioned Dangote Refinery Booking Office. Describing her as a symbol of perseverance, he commended her for contributing to Nigeria’s growth rather than joining the “Japa syndrome,” the trend of skilled Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad.
In her remarks, Mrs. Akinlosotu reflected on the decade-long journey to realizing her dream.
She noted that the new office is equipped to handle product transactions worth over a billion naira and is committed to serving clients with integrity and professionalism. “We are open for business with a promise to serve our clients with integrity and professionalism,” she assured.
The event was marked by optimism and forward-thinking, with key figures in attendance, including the Commissioner for Science and Innovations, Hon. Maruf Ayofe, and the South West Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Kamarudeen Ajisafe, among other top government officials.
Speaking further on the economic challenges, Governor Adeleke pointed out that the current climate offers a unique opportunity for those willing to innovate. “Economic challenges often spur innovation,” he remarked. “This is a time for entrepreneurs to explore new avenues, develop new products, and adapt to the changing market demands. Our administration is committed to supporting such initiatives.”
Governor Adeleke’s message resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting resilience and innovation as the keys to navigating and thriving in Nigeria’s challenging economic environment.
His words were a clarion call for all entrepreneurs to not only survive but thrive by leveraging their creativity and tenacity.
Among the dignitaries present, Hon. Maruf Ayofe expressed his admiration for the Governor’s foresight and encouragement. “Governor Adeleke’s vision for a resilient and innovative business community is commendable. We must all take this message to heart and work towards building a stronger, more adaptive economy,” he stated.
The South West Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Kamarudeen Ajisafe, echoed similar sentiments, praising the entrepreneurial spirit displayed at the event. “Today’s commissioning is a testament to what can be achieved when business leaders refuse to be daunted by challenges. It is an inspiration to all of us,” he said.
The Dangote Refinery Booking Office, with its substantial capacity for product transactions, is poised to play a significant role in the local economy. Mrs. Akinlosotu, in her concluding remarks, expressed her gratitude to all who supported her vision.
“This venture is not just a business; it is a testament to what can be achieved with determination and support. I am grateful to everyone who believed in this dream and worked tirelessly to make it a reality,” she said.
The event was concluded with a tour of the new facilities, showcasing the state-of-the-art infrastructure designed to meet the highest standards of the industry.
