The Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, has apprehended and paraded three individuals accused of involvement in serious criminal offenses, including rape, burglary, and theft. The arrests followed intelligence-driven operations carried out across various locations in the state.
Bricklayer Arrested for Burglary, Theft of Items Worth ₦2.5 Million
One of the suspects, Kayode Adekunle, a 30-year-old bricklayer, was arrested for allegedly breaking into an uncompleted residential building at a new site in Osogbo.
According to the Corps Commander, Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, Adekunle exploited his familiarity with the building site to unlawfully gain access after work hours. He is accused of stealing electrical tools and wiring materials valued at approximately ₦2.5 million.
After a period of discreet surveillance and intelligence gathering, operatives tracked him to his residence, where he was arrested and the stolen items recovered.
Tailor Arrested for Stealing Household Appliances Worth Over ₦800,000
Another suspect, Lawal Musa, a 23-year-old tailor from Kaduna State and resident of Sabo, Osogbo, was arrested for the theft of several home appliances, including a flat-screen television, electrical cables, and two large standing fans, with an estimated total value of over ₦800,000.
During interrogation, Musa confessed to selling the items at heavily discounted prices to a buyer named “Rilwan” within the same neighborhood. The television was reportedly sold for ₦27,000 and the fans for ₦30,000. Investigations are ongoing into Rilwan’s possible involvement in a broader criminal syndicate specializing in stolen goods.
29-Year-Old Arrested for Rape at Gunpoint
In a separate case, Amotekun operatives arrested Lekan Bakare, a 29-year-old tailor and commercial motorcyclist, for the alleged rape of a 35-year-old woman in the Alusekere area of Ede.
According to the victim, Bakare lured her to his residence under the pretense of helping her search for her missing ward. Upon arrival, he reportedly threatened her with a locally made pistol and a knife before forcefully raping her.
The victim promptly reported the incident to the Amotekun office. The suspect was swiftly apprehended and confessed to the crime during interrogation. The matter has been transferred to relevant authorities for prosecution.
Commander Omoyele reaffirmed the Corps’ dedication to ensuring the safety of Osun residents and eradicating criminal activity from all parts of the state.
“These arrests clearly show our firm stance against crime. We will continue working relentlessly until every community in Osun is safe and justice is served,” he stated.
Legal proceedings are underway against all suspects.
