In the fight against crime in Osun State, the Osun Amotekun Corps has successfully apprehended a 27-year-old suspect, Hassan Olalekan, believed to be the ringleader of a criminal gang involved in multiple armed robberies and burglaries across several towns. The operation culminated in Olalekan’s arrest in Ila-Orangun, a development in ongoing efforts to combat the escalating wave of criminal activities plaguing the region.
Olalekan, a native of Ile-Ife who resides in Ilesa, was arrested after a well-coordinated operation prompted by credible intelligence. The police reported that he is linked to a series of violent crimes committed in the towns of Ila-Orangun, Iree, and Ilesa, where he and his accomplices terrorized residents, wielding firearms during their midnight raids.
In a statement made available to Lens AfricaTV by the Public Relation Officer of Osun Amotekun, Yusuf Idowu Abbass said during interrogation, Olalekan confessed to his involvement alongside three accomplices known as Segun, Wale, and Adebayo. The gang reportedly threatened and overpowered victims using three pistols and a barrel gun, stealing cash, electronics, and other valuables in a string of brazen attacks. Their operations were characterized by meticulous planning, allowing them to evade capture while instilling fear in their targeted communities.
Dr. Omoyele Isaac Adekunle, Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, described the arrest as a substantial achievement in their quest to dismantle criminal enterprises in the state. “This arrest is a major breakthrough in our efforts to clamp down on criminal elements within Osun State. We are committed to ensuring that those who engage in such activities face the full force of the law,” he stated confidently.
Authorities are actively pursuing the remaining members of Olalekan’s gang, whose whereabouts remain unknown. The case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiries, with investigators now focused on recovering stolen items from the various robberies.
The incidence of armed robbery and violent crime has been on the rise in Osun State, prompting residents to intensify calls for heightened security measures. In light of recent events, Commander Omoyele emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies. “We appeal to the people of Osun State to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime. The safety of our communities depends on the collective efforts of all citizens,” he urged.
The Osun Amotekun Corps, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has made it clear that they will not relent in their mission to create a safer environment for residents. The apprehension of Olalekan signifies a proactive approach towards curbing the surge of criminal activities and restoring order in the affected areas.
As investigations unfold, the Amotekun Corps reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and safety across Osun State. With the support of the community, authorities remain optimistic about capturing the remaining gang members and recovering stolen property, heralding an era of increased security for all citizens.
This timely intervention serves as a stark reminder that the fight against crime will require collective action, vigilance, and cooperation from all members of society to ensure a prosperous and secure environment for future generations.
