To boost education in Ondo State, the state government on Monday disbursed a total of N335 million in bursary, scholarship, and financial assistance to 11,220 students. The event, held in Akure, the state capital, was marked by a firm commitment from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who emphasized the crucial role of education in driving development.
Governor Aiyedatiwa underscored his administration’s unwavering dedication to enhancing educational opportunities for the youth of Ondo State. “Education is the cornerstone of development,” he stated, highlighting the various policies and programs implemented under his leadership to elevate the standard of education across the state.
The governor noted that the financial support extended to the students was not merely a monetary gesture but a vote of confidence in their potential to excel. “This bursary and scholarship award is a testament to our belief in the talents and abilities of our young people. We are committed to ensuring that they have the best possible opportunities to develop themselves and contribute meaningfully to society,” Aiyedatiwa affirmed.
He also acknowledged the pivotal role played by parents and guardians in nurturing and supporting the academic journeys of their wards. Commending their sacrifices, the governor said, “Your support has been invaluable in shaping the future of these young people. We are deeply grateful for your contributions.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa went on to outline several key achievements of his administration in the education sector. These include the regular payment of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration fees for all students in public secondary schools, as well as the reconstruction and renovation of public primary and secondary schools across the state. Additionally, the governor highlighted the recruitment and regular training of teachers, coupled with the prompt payment of their salaries, as part of efforts to improve the quality of education in Ondo State.
“Our administration is passionately committed to creating an environment that nurtures the potential of our young people. We are investing in their future because we believe they are the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow,” Aiyedatiwa said, calling on the academic community to continue providing a conducive environment for learning.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, expressed the government’s resolve to support students in their academic pursuits. He praised the governor’s dedication to the welfare of students, noting that their achievements both within and outside Nigeria have brought pride to Ondo State.
The Administrative Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Ademola Kolawole, also emphasized the broader benefits of investing in education. “This investment will yield significant returns for both the state and the nation at large,” he remarked.
In his remarks, the president of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), Mr. Oyelade Ahmed, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries. He acknowledged the initiative as a much-needed relief for many families and reaffirmed the association’s confidence in Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
This disbursement marks a continued effort by the Ondo State Government to prioritize education and empower the next generation of leaders through sustained investment in their academic and personal development.
