The Ondo State Government is in mourning following the death of Tayo Oluwatuyi, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), fondly known as “Tukana.” Oluwatuyi succumbed to injuries sustained in a car accident on December 15, 2024, while traveling to Ibadan. He passed away early Saturday morning at a state hospital in Akure.
The announcement of his death was made in an official statement by Wale Akinlosotu, the Commissioner for Information. Describing Oluwatuyi as a dedicated public servant, Akinlosotu highlighted his immense contributions to the administrative and developmental strides of Ondo State.
“Hon. Oluwatuyi will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to administrative coordination, policy advisory, and the development of Ondo State,” Akinlosotu stated. “His death is a significant loss to the state and its people.”
Oluwatuyi’s tenure as SSG, a position he held twice, was marked by his exceptional ability to coordinate government activities and provide strategic advice to the executive arm. Prior to this, he served as the Chairman of Akure South Local Government and as a Commissioner, earning a reputation for his diligence and effectiveness.
The late SSG’s passing has cast a shadow over Ondo State, with residents and political leaders alike expressing shock and grief. Many have taken to social media to share tributes, recounting his approachable demeanor and the pivotal role he played in fostering good governance.
“His contributions cannot be overstated. Tayo Oluwatuyi’s tireless efforts to improve governance and uplift the people of Ondo State will forever be etched in our hearts,” Governor Akeredolu said.
The late SSG’s family has also received an outpouring of support from the public. Community leaders, colleagues, and friends have visited his home to console his wife and children.
The tragic car accident that claimed Oluwatuyi’s life occurred on the busy Akure-Ibadan road, a route notorious for frequent accidents due to its deteriorating condition and heavy traffic.
As the state grieves, the loss of such a stalwart figure is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by public servants in their quest to improve the lives of those they serve.
