Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has immortalized his predecessor, the late Rotimi Akeredolu, by naming a new high court complex in his honor.
The facility, now known as the Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu Judiciary Complex, marks a significant milestone in the administration of justice in the state and serves as a tribute to the late governor’s visionary leadership in judicial reforms.
The announcement was made during the flag-off ceremony for the Judiciary Village on Friday in Akure, the state capital. Governor Aiyedatiwa described the project as a historic achievement and a long-overdue response to the state’s need for modern judicial infrastructure.
He acknowledged that since Ondo State’s creation in 1976, no substantial effort had been made to establish a comprehensive facility for the judiciary, a gap this project seeks to fill.
In his remarks, Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the initiative was not just an infrastructural milestone but also a fulfillment of Akeredolu’s aspirations for an efficient and accessible judicial system.
The late Akeredolu, who passed away on December 27, 2023, had laid the groundwork for the Judiciary Village during his administration. Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his commitment to carrying forward the blueprint set by his predecessor, stating that the project aligns with the administration’s goal of fostering a conducive environment for the judiciary to thrive. The judiciary complex will include state-of-the-art features such as a ceremonial court, modular courtrooms, a registry, a library, and exhibition halls, creating a functional and forward-looking judicial village. The Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, praised the initiative as a landmark achievement, commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for prioritizing the judiciary and elevating its infrastructure to meet modern standards.
