Jon James Olomo, known affectionately as Omowale, has been installed as the Mayegun of Odesan Kingdom on November 28. The event took place at the palace of His Royal Majesty Oba Adeniyi Isaiah, in Ile Ife, Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone not only for Omowale but also for the cultural heritage of the Odesan Kingdom. As the prince of the Shasha Kingdom and founder of the ethnic initiative, Tribal Tapestry, Omowale’s commitment to community development and cultural preservation was richly acknowledged during the event.
In a heartfelt address, Oba Isaiah praised Olomo’s contributions to the community, expressing gratitude for his unwavering dedication to the preservation of cultural heritage. “Your efforts are truly satisfactory,” the Oba stated, as he conferred the prestigious chieftaincy title upon Olomo.
He extended heartfelt prayers for Omowale’s longevity and continued success, emphasizing the importance of his role in the ongoing sustenance of their rich traditions.
The occasion was not just ceremonial; it showcased the vibrant cultural tapestry of Odesan. Several dignitaries and community leaders rallied to support Olomo’s installation.
The Bobagunwa of Odesan, Engr Osikoya Fela Nelson, remarked on Omowale’s reliability and deep love for the customs and traditions of the kingdom. “He is deserving of this title; his heartfelt commitment to our culture speaks volumes,” said Nelson.
When speaking Chief Adebola Lateef, the Bobasinlu of Odesan, echoed similar sentiments, praising the newly appointed Mayegun for his ongoing efforts toward the advancement of the kingdom.
“Omowale is beloved and has tirelessly worked for our community’s development,” he stated, highlighting the collective pride shared by the Odesan citizens in their new leader.
For the honoree, Olomo expressed immense gratitude to Oba Isaiah and the people of Odesan for the honour bestowed upon him. “This title is not just an accolade; it is a call to duty,” he affirmed, emphasizing his dedication to leading the community with integrity and passion for cultural preservation.
The installation ceremony featured a variety of engaging activities, including cultural presentations that celebrated the kingdom’s indigenous traditions.
Attendees participated in a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting the renovation and upkeep of the royal palace, which has become a focal point for cultural gatherings and events.
Also, a special prayer session for the prosperity and unity of the kingdom reinforced the community’s commitment to collective advancement.
As Jon James Olomo assumes the title of Mayegun, the Odesan Kingdom looks forward to a renewed era of cultural pride and development under his leadership.
