Israeli forces have intensified their operations in the Shujayea neighborhood east of Gaza City. The Israeli military has reported heavy fighting both above and below ground, claiming the elimination of a large number of militants and the discovery of a weapons storage facility hidden within a school compound. The air force has targeted various “terror targets” and armed groups, including one reportedly en route to attack Israeli troops.
In response to the heightened military activity, the Israeli military issued an urgent evacuation order for residents in Shujayea and neighboring areas, directing them to move south along Salah al-Din Street. This offensive has resulted in significant displacement, with the United Nations estimating that at least 60,000 residents have been forced to abandon their homes.
The humanitarian toll continues to rise. In central Gaza, four members of the al-Ghazi family, including a child, were killed while attempting to fill water containers at a distribution point. The United Nations has reported that the renewed offensive has led to further displacement and casualties, with at least 5,000 people uprooted from al-Mawasi, an area previously designated as a “safe zone.”
In Rafah, southern Gaza, Israeli military operations persist, with claims of eliminating numerous militants and targeting anti-tank missile posts. Meanwhile, two projectiles fired from Gaza were intercepted or fell in open areas within Israel’s Sderot, demonstrating the ongoing exchange of fire between the two sides.
The Gaza Ministry of Health has reported a staggering increase in casualties, with 37,834 people killed and 86,858 wounded since October 7. In the past 24 hours alone, 40 Palestinians have been killed, and 224 have been injured, highlighting the severe human cost of the conflict.
As the violence continues unabated, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. Continuous fighting has resulted in widespread displacement, injuries, and fatalities among civilians, compounding the challenges for aid organizations striving to provide relief. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and humanitarian access to assist the affected populations.
