The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has called on staff members to build on the productivity momentum achieved in 2024 and continue their excellent service delivery throughout 2025. Addressing the workforce during the first Corps Marshal’s Parade of the year at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, February 3, Mohammed emphasized the importance of capacity building, staff welfare, and regular promotions as integral components of his leadership vision for the year.
He began his address by commending the dedication and hard work demonstrated by the FRSC staff, particularly during the end-of-year special patrols in 2024. The festive season’s heavy traffic and challenging road conditions posed significant difficulties, but the FRSC personnel managed to navigate these challenges efficiently, ensuring safer roads for citizens across the country. “Your resilience and professionalism were evident in the smooth management of traffic, helping to reduce road accidents and ensuring the safety of travelers during the festive period. I want to thank each and every one of you for your unwavering commitment,” he said, recognizing the staff’s role in the success of the holiday operations.
Turning his attention to staff welfare, the Corps Marshal reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of FRSC personnel. He stressed that regular health checkups and fitness activities are essential for preventing major health issues and ensuring the personnel remain in top physical condition to perform their duties effectively. “Your health is paramount,” Mohammed said, adding that it was important for staff to take proactive steps in maintaining their fitness levels to avoid work-related injuries and illnesses.
In line with this, the Corps Marshal announced several initiatives aimed at strengthening the welfare of the FRSC staff. One of the key developments he highlighted was the plan to enhance the FRSC Staff Cooperative and Housing Schemes. With housing affordability being a significant concern for many personnel, the Corps aims to provide better housing opportunities and facilitate affordable homeownership options for its staff. Mohammed also revealed plans to launch the FRSC’s own Healthcare Management Organization (HMO), a bold step designed to improve medical services available to staff and their families. “This initiative will ensure that every member of the Corps has access to quality healthcare when needed, which is a crucial aspect of enhancing our service delivery,” he emphasized.
Addressing issues of discipline and productivity within the Corps, Mohammed took the opportunity to remind staff of the importance of professionalism and commitment to the organization’s core values. He issued a stern warning against indolence, rumor-mongering, and any actions that could tarnish the FRSC’s image. “We cannot afford to allow behavior that undermines the integrity and reputation of this great institution,” he stated firmly. However, he reassured those who exhibit exemplary performance that their efforts would be duly recognized and rewarded. “We will ensure that your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we will reward those who contribute positively to the success of the Corps,” he added.
The Corps Marshal’s emphasis on discipline was not only a call for greater accountability but also a reminder of the high standards expected from every member of the organization. “We are a public service institution, and we must always be mindful of the example we set for the public,” he said, emphasizing that those who fall short of expectations will face consequences in line with the Corps’ disciplinary measures.
Looking ahead to the future, Mohammed reminded the staff of the importance of upholding the Corps’ founding values as FRSC approaches its 37th anniversary on February 18. He urged the personnel to continue striving for excellence, not only within Nigeria but also on a global scale. “Our vision is to make the FRSC a model of excellence in road safety and traffic management worldwide, and every one of you plays a role in making that vision a reality,” he said. As the anniversary approaches, the Corps is poised to celebrate its achievements and reflect on its remarkable journey in transforming road safety standards across the country.
On the topic of technological advancements, the Corps Marshal highlighted the importance of adapting to modern tools and systems to improve service delivery. He encouraged the staff to download and familiarize themselves with the FRSC Mobile App, which was launched the previous year. The app, which aims to enhance traffic management efforts, allows users to access important information such as traffic updates, road safety tips, and emergency response services. “Technology is an indispensable tool in our work, and it is essential that we continue to embrace it to improve our efficiency,” he stated, urging staff to utilize the app to its full potential to support their daily operations.
The Corps Marshal also took the opportunity to discuss the upcoming promotion exercises within the organization, noting that these would begin soon, starting with the Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) positions. With numerous vacancies across the Corps, the promotion exercise aims to fill these critical roles, ensuring that the FRSC continues to have the leadership and expertise needed to meet its goals in the year ahead. “We are committed to ensuring that our staff has opportunities to grow and advance in their careers,” Mohammed explained. He reiterated that promotions would be based on merit and performance, ensuring that the most qualified individuals are chosen to take on leadership roles within the organization.
As FRSC embarks on another year of service, the Corps Marshal’s speech underscores the ongoing commitment to staff welfare, discipline, and capacity building. By focusing on the health and well-being of its personnel, enhancing training programs, and promoting the use of technology, the FRSC is positioning itself for continued success in 2025. Mohammed’s leadership vision highlights a clear focus on empowering the staff and ensuring that the Corps can meet the ever-growing demands of road safety in Nigeria.
The Corps Marshal his address express appreciation to the staff for their dedication and hard work, and he encouraged them to remain focused on the goals for 2025. “Together, we will make this year one of our most successful yet, and we will continue to build on the legacy of excellence that has defined the FRSC since its inception,” he said.
