Former U.S. President Bill Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., on Monday afternoon after developing a fever, his office announced.
The 78-year-old is undergoing testing and observation, according to a statement from Angel Urena, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff.
“President Clinton remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving,” Urena said, assuring the public of Clinton’s stable condition.
Clinton, who served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001, remains an influential figure in the Democratic Party. His hospitalization has drawn attention from political leaders and supporters alike, many of whom have expressed concern and extended their well-wishes.
Known for his active post-presidency, Clinton recently addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, delivering a rousing speech that highlighted his enduring commitment to public service.
Over the summer and fall, he campaigned extensively for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the White House—a campaign that ultimately fell short in November’s election.
A familiar face on the political stage for decades, Clinton has experienced previous health challenges, including heart surgery in 2004 and a hospitalization for a urinary tract infection in 2021. Despite these setbacks, he has consistently returned to the public eye, advocating for various causes, including global health and climate change.
As news of his hospitalization spread, social media platforms lit up with messages of support. “Wishing President Clinton a speedy recovery,” one user wrote, echoing the sentiments of many across the nation.
The Clinton Foundation, which the former president founded with his family, also released a statement expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support and emphasizing that Clinton remains “determined and optimistic.”
While the exact cause of his fever has not been disclosed, Clinton’s medical team at Georgetown University Medical Center is reportedly conducting thorough evaluations to ensure his well-being.
Supporters are hopeful for a swift recovery, drawing on Clinton’s resilience and history of overcoming health challenges. For now, the nation awaits further updates on one of its most enduring political figures.
