Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of residents with the approval of 1,000 additional personnel for the state’s Amotekun Corps. This announcement was made during the passing-out parade of 690 Batch D trainees at the Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu, where the governor commended the dedication and readiness of the newly trained operatives.
The governor made it clear that Ogun State would not be a haven for criminals and emphasized that this recruitment is a strategic move to bolster security, particularly at the grassroots level.
By expanding the Amotekun Corps to over 2,000 personnel, the state aims to enhance community policing and intelligence-driven security efforts. Governor Abiodun noted that the security of lives and property remains a top priority for his administration.
To equip the Corps effectively, Governor Abiodun pledged to provide additional patrol vehicles, electric motorcycles, communication gadgets, and other logistics to enable the operatives to perform their duties seamlessly.
He praised the level of training and discipline demonstrated by the recruits and urged them to operate professionally and within the confines of the law. He emphasized the importance of respecting residents while fostering collaboration with traditional rulers and other security agencies.
During his address, the governor sent a strong warning to criminals, stating that Ogun State would remain hostile to their activities. The presence of well-trained operatives across the state is expected to create a deterrent to crime, while providing residents with enhanced safety and security.
Governor Abiodun called on the people to support the Corps by offering timely and useful information to aid security operations, stressing that community involvement is critical to the success of the initiative.
He expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the Amotekun Corps since its establishment and commended the efforts of the pioneer leadership in laying a solid foundation. The governor also highlighted the significance of the Corps in complementing federal security initiatives, noting that the outfit’s operations have significantly contributed to peace and stability in the state.
Retired General Alade Adedigba, the Commandant of the Amotekun Corps, praised the government for its continued support, including the provision of new uniforms, communication equipment, and resources to maintain patrol vehicles and motorcycles. He assured the public of the operatives’ commitment to serving diligently while adhering strictly to the law.
The passing-out parade also featured cultural displays, sports competitions, and the presentation of awards to standout teams, reflecting the camaraderie and high morale among the trainees. Governor Abiodun expressed confidence that the expanded Corps would further strengthen Ogun State’s position as a model of effective community-based security and reiterated his resolve to ensure the safety of every resident.
With these measures in place, the governor assured Ogun residents of improved security across the state and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a peaceful and secure environment.
