Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State reiterated the untapped potential of individuals with disabilities (PWDs) during the World Disabilities Day celebration held at Osogbo Grammar School.
The governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi, called attention to the remarkable resilience and capabilities of PWDs, emphasizing that these individuals should be recognized for their achievements rather than their challenges.
Adeleke’s address aligned with the day’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disability for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” which resonated with attendees, sparking inspiration and determination.
He urged society to embrace a more inclusive approach, highlighting the importance of integrating PWDs across all sectors, including the arts, sports, education, governance, and entrepreneurship.
The governor’s passionate remarks served as a reminder that disability does not equate to inability. He noted, “Their achievements demonstrate that disability is not a limitation,” reinforcing that society must acknowledge and utilize the diverse strengths that PWDs bring to the table.
By showcasing success stories of individuals who have excelled despite their challenges, Adeleke aimed to inspire both PWDs and the broader community to rethink their perceptions of disability.
Adeleke’s administration is committed to fostering an environment where PWDs can thrive. His plans include implementing policy reforms, enhancing advocacy initiatives, and expanding empowerment programs tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities.
This commitment to support and advocacy signals a transformative shift in recognizing the rights and dignity of PWDs, promising a future where they can contribute fully to society.
The event drew attention to existing barriers and encouraged dialogue on necessary changes to promote accessibility and equality. Attendees, including advocates and community leaders, resonated with the governor’s message, igniting discussions about collaboration and strategies to propel inclusivity forward.
As Osun State commemorates World Disabilities Day, Governor Adeleke’s vision for a more equitable society is clear: It’s time to amplify the voices of persons with disabilities and ensure their rightful place within every sector.
Together, the community can work towards removing obstacles and paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
