Tunji Disu has formally arrived at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, marking the final stage in his assumption of office as the Acting Inspector-General of Police.
Disu arrived at the Villa at about 2:45 pm, accompanied by two senior police officers and close family members, as preparations commenced for his official decoration and inauguration. Also sighted at the venue was the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who joined other dignitaries present for the transition ceremony.
The appointment of Disu follows the resignation of Egbetokun, which was tendered earlier in the week and accepted by President Bola Tinubu. According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the resignation was based on “pressing family considerations.”
President Tinubu, while accepting the resignation, commended Egbetokun for his decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force, praising his professionalism, leadership, and commitment to strengthening the nation’s internal security framework during his tenure.
Onanuga noted that, in view of Nigeria’s prevailing security challenges and in line with existing laws and legal guidance, the President approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect.
Disu’s elevation places a seasoned security professional at the helm of the police force. Known within policing circles for his operational depth, intelligence-led policing approach, and experience in high-risk security management, Disu steps into office at a critical moment when national security remains firmly in public focus.
Lens Africa TV also gathered that members of the Police Council were present to witness Disu’s inauguration, underscoring the institutional weight of the transition.
As the baton changes hands, all eyes remain on how the new Acting IGP will navigate Nigeria’s complex security terrain and build on the foundations laid by his predecessor.
