Nigeria has launched a groundbreaking National Data Hub for Gender and Climate Information, a first-of-its-kind system aimed at generating, harmonizing, and visualizing gender-disaggregated climate data across sectors. The launch took place on November 12, 2025, in Belém, Brazil, during the Joint Side Event on “Scaling Inclusive Climate Finance: Delivering the $1.3 Trillion Roadmap for People, Economies and Nature” at COP30.
The Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Barr. Tenioye Majekodunmi, stated that the Hub is a key component of Nigeria’s commitment to mainstreaming gender across all aspects of climate governance, as outlined in the Climate Change Act 2021 and National Action Plan on Gender and Climate Change (2020-2025).
The National Data Hub is a strategic instrument for evidence-based policymaking, bringing transparency, accountability, and ensuring that climate interventions reflect the lived realities of women and girls. It will enhance Nigeria’s reporting under the Enhanced Transparency Framework and align with the objectives of the Commonwealth Collaborative Network for Gender-Responsive Climate Action.
The launch of the National Data Hub demonstrates Nigeria’s dedication to promoting inclusive climate finance, closing gendered knowledge gaps, and elevating women’s leadership in climate action. Nigeria stands ready to partner with the Commonwealth Collaborative Network to share knowledge, strengthen South-South collaboration, and champion data-driven, gender-just approaches to climate finance.
The National Data Hub is expected to play a crucial role in driving climate resilience, sustainable development, and equitable transformation in Nigeria and beyond.
