A stride towards enhancing security and ensuring the safety of local communities, the troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, launched a series of aggressive clearance operations against bandit hideouts in Taraba State as part of Operation Golden Peace.
The operation, which commenced following extensive confidence-building patrols, has marked a renewed effort to eradicate banditry and terrorism in the region.
Beginning on November 28, 2024, in the Takum Local Government Area, the operation focused on known terrorist strongholds, particularly around Lijem High Ground. The Nigerian troops successfully cleared areas that had previously been under the control of bandits, establishing a strong military presence along key locations such as the power line near Vingiri and Vingir villages.
This military initiative not only aimed to neutralize bandit threats but also sought to reassure local residents, fostering a sense of safety and stability in the region.
Over the following days, the operations intensified with targeted missions in villages including Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume. The success in these areas indicates a systematic approach by the Nigerian military to dismantle the operational capacity of bandits, which have terrorized communities in the northern part of the state.
In one of the operation’s most notable engagements, the troops encountered notorious bandit camps linked to the well-known criminal, Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, also known as Boujogh. The confrontation led to a fierce firefight, where the armed forces showcased their superior firepower, overwhelming the bandits and forcing their retreat.
During the aftermath of this engagement, several bandit camps were dismantled, and the troops recovered vital equipment including 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, a handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.
In a further demonstration of commitment to security, the troops extended their operations into the Akume and Ananum areas of Donga Local Government Area on November 30, 2024. This expansion of operations underscores the Brigade’s relentless pursuit of ensuring the safety of lives and property across Taraba State, restoring hope for residents who have long lived in fear of bandit attacks.
The success of Operation Golden Peace is a testament to the determination of the Nigerian Army to tackle banditry and improve the security situation in Taraba State. As these operations continue to unfold, the local populace is beginning to see the tangible benefits of military intervention, sparking hopes for a return to normalcy and peace in the region.
The concerted efforts by the military not only aim to eradicate the immediate threats but also to build lasting confidence within communities, paving the way for a more secure and prosperous future in Taraba State.
