In a bold move aimed at easing the burden of rising living costs, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has officially launched a free bus service for residents, a key component of his five-point agenda addressing economic hardship. The announcement was made on Monday in Benin City, marking a significant initiative from the state government to support its citizens amid current financial challenges.
The new service, operated through the Edo City Transport Service (ECTS), will provide free transportation across all three of Edo State’s Senatorial districts, allowing residents to navigate both intra-city and inter-city routes without incurring costs. This strategic initiative is expected to significantly reduce transportation expenses, a critical concern for many families in the region.
According to a statement released by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, this project highlights Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Edo residents. “The free bus service is not just about transportation; it’s a lifeline for families struggling with daily expenses,” Okpebholo stated during the announcement.
The routes will cover pivotal areas in Edo Central, including Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, and Uromi, as well as key locations in Edo North such as Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, and Fugar. This extensive network underscores the governor’s goal to enhance accessibility while promoting economic growth and mobility within the state.
As residents eagerly anticipate the launch of the service, this initiative is expected to make a substantial difference, promoting greater connectivity within communities and leaving a lasting impact on the daily lives of Edo citizens.
