In the war-torn region of South Sudan, where maternal mortality rates are staggeringly high, a group of dedicated midwives are battling against all odds to save the lives of mothers and their newborns. Among these midwives is Elizabeth Nyachiew, a fearless and tenacious midwife supervisor with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), who has witnessed the harrowing challenges faced by women in this region.
South Sudan is plagued by one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, with many women facing life-threatening complications during childbirth due to the lack of access to proper medical care. Despite the daunting circumstances, Elizabeth Nyachiew and her team of midwives at MSF are working tirelessly to provide vital healthcare services to expectant mothers.
Elizabeth Nyachiew, who has been on the front lines of maternal healthcare for years, shared her experiences, shedding light on the challenges faced by midwives in South Sudan. “Every day, we are confronted with the harsh reality of maternal healthcare in this region.
